Adding passenger side door mirror

I am considering adding a mirror on the passenger side door of my 1973 Targa. I know that it will need to be in a different place than the driver side mirror. And, I'm wondering if I might run into obstacles in the passenger side door that could make the installation challenging or require modifications. Has anyone done this before and can you provide any advice or guidance?

I added one to my 78 Targa which did not have one when I purchased it.
My advice it to take your time and make sure the measurements are correct.

Also remember that the mirror is not in the same location as the drivers. It is a little further back. If you mount it in the same location it will only be good for the passenger.

I made a template out of cardboard and taped it to the door before drilling the holes. The reinforcement plate was purchased from Pelican and I got a mirror off
a wrecked 911.

I did not wire it up and just manually adjust it also.

These instructions were very useful.

Good Luck

I'm not sure about 75- cars but I know the later 75's and up had reinforcement plates on the inside of the door. I remember seeing a thread on how to mount a flag mirror on pass. door but I'm not sure it's the same for your year.

Fitting a passenger side mirror on a '77 911?

If you're using the stock, polished mirror from 73, you will not need reinforcing plates. The footprint is the same for the Durant mirrors of early cars through the rectangular mirrors of 75. You can simply remove your drivers side mirror and measure the holes--center to center--or measure the holes in the inside of the door frame in the dog leg.

You definitely need to research the positioning and there are several threads on that subject, with pictures. The location is farther back and a bit higher on the door than the driver's side.
