Angry How do you seperate the tranny from the engine?

I have a 1977 911S with a 2.7 . I removed the engine/tranny and now I want to seperate the two. I have removed all of the bolts that hold the two units together as well as the starter has been removed.
I did not remove the clutch arm or any of the springs (helper or pedal play) under the assy. I tried to seperate the two units and there was something still holding the two together. I read somewhere that there is three rivets that are on the ring gear that require you to screw a M6-12 screw into so that the pressure from the clutch will be released. The rivets can be accessed through the hole where the starter normaly bolts up. Then it said to go to the other side of the tranny and using a screwdriver releash the presuure on the release arm.

The last time I removed this motor , I did not remember doing all of that. I did remove the springs and release arm , and the two seperated without any problem. Am I over looking something here? Do I have to screw the m6-12 screw into the three revits to release the pressure, or can I just remove the release arm to releave the pressure? Or is neither needed, and I'm just not pulling hard enough, I did not want to over pull it and brake something!!

Help!!!!!!!!

Rick
1977 911S 2.7 for now.

You have to release the clutch throw out bearing by pushing the large arm at the bottom of the trans toward the front of the car. Helper spring and adjuster need to be removed.

See the conversion home page below for details.

Good luck, and forget about the rivets.

The proceedure illustrated in Haynes compressing the rivets with spacer and Allen bolt was unique to the '70 and '71 models with the '911' varaition of the 901 transaxle with the oddball clutch linkage that was operated by the Bowden cable sheath movement rising and falling in the cable guide via pulley and had the clutch cable end bolted solid to the transaxle case!

Thanks!!!

Thanks John,Marc, and Warren

I'll try it tonight.

Brian,
As I Stated before I dont remember doing that the last time. I removed the arm for a different reason, and when I went to remove the engine combo the two seperated with no problem but the arm was already off. So I was unaware that the arm was holding the pressure on the plate!!!

Thanks
Rick
