How low without re-indexing rear tbars?

Hey all,

Searched for this, but can't seem to find the answer.

I've rebuilt the front suspension last week on my 87 Targa. I set ride height to 25".

I'm planning to rebuild rear suspension in a couple of months. In the meantime, how much can I lower the car using stock spring plates and not reindexing torsion bars?

I lowered my 86 930 about 20 yrs ago, so it was pretty new and was a little 26 in in the rear. I loosened the spit spring plate nuts and it dropped about 1 inch. After driving for 100 miles it settled to around 25 inch. Remember after initial lowering to drive it for 100 miles as it will settle down about 1/4 inch as the rubber bushings re position themselves. Also as the gas tank nears empty the front will rise and rear will drop a little. Especially with stock bars.

The long version of this is that Porsche didn't want people to do this, so they made it more difficult. They set the adjustment when the car was built so that you could only raise the car, not lower it. That would dissuade casual tinkering. To do what you want to do, you need to re-index the bars to the desired ride height, with the adjusters set to the middle position, so that you can fine tune it in both directions when you corner balance the car.

Unless someone has already been there and lowered it...
