Mini Morris beating 911
I was at a track event several years ago at Orange County Fairground parking lot. The parking lot was setting up to be a mini track with many red cones at each corner. One car at a time. The old Mini Morris beats Corvette, Porsche 944, 911, Nissan 300zx twin Turbo, Acura NSX. The going speed was around 20-25 MPH at max. It was amazing to see the other cars struggling through corners, Mini just did it so easily.
I think the main reason Mini did well because there were mostly corners and turns but no straight away track.

Don't get so excited just yet. The mini is a decent car for sporting use such as autocross but I've seen plenty of them get beaten back into their shoeboxes by 911's too. So in your case it was probably just the driver.
