Is there any reason for a drain to be in the air box of a 2.7?
It doesn't look like water can enter the air box easily, overfilling the tank with oil will just be burned up during combustion. Should I put a drain in or not worry about it? ![]()

I wouldn't worry about it. In any case any drain hole would likely have to sit past the filter in the airflow, which wouldn't be that good...drawing in unfiltered air...or require its own separate filter?

The stock 2.7 airbox has a drain fitting molded in near that back corner. Porsche ran a line from that drain down to a rubber check valve near the bell housing of the transmission. I think the purpose was to allow excessive oil/water condensation from the breather system a place to get out and not saturate the filter.
I have the drain capped off on my 2.7. No issues. (I do pop open the air cleaner every so often to make sure things aren't messy.) |
