COMPLETE suspension upgrade: tips, tricks and pitfalls - share with me!
Hi All,
I am about to kick off another project on my beloved '77 911s. Complete Rip / Replace / Upgrade of suspension & brake system. I know there are tons of threads on this topic, and i will read / research them all - BUT would appreciate your input on the following questions i have: 1 - has anyone done a complete upgrade using Elephant Racing parts? 2 - if i upgrade my current suspension + brake for the SC look (currently have SC flares) - what would need changing if i were to backdate and go turbo flares??? (or is it simply adding spacers??) and the most important one: 3 - can you share with you experiences in terms of "wish i had known before" tips / tricks and |
I strongly suggest reading Craig_D's thread. That is as close to a "complete" upgrade using ER parts as I know and what I did is very similar.
My advice is: - consider how much street vs track driving you will be doing - when you're refreshing worn or tired components just the fact that you're replacing them will be a huge improvement. you don't necessarily need to spend big $$$ to see improvement - changing anything from stock settings is a slippery slope - consider the whole suspension as a SYSTEM and select the components that are complimentary to one another - read and talk to people. if possible, drive a couple of cars that are set up differently for comparison - remember that things like 'harshness' are subjective and people have different opinions on what is/is not acceptable - it is easy for the value-per-dollar ratio to get out control - at the end of the day, do what pleases you I really enjoy my upgraded suspension. I need to raise the ride height from where it is currently but I would do it over. PS - if you're thinking of using ER, give Chuck Moreland a call. I've found him to be very helpful and accessible to talk. |
