Seat Recommendations

Hi all,

I have read the other threads about height challenges when it comes to sunroof coupes.
I am not interested in removing the sunroof since I just repaired the thing and now moves like butter. Unfortunately I have a long torso, so my head to touch the roof.
This is annoying and makes me want to hunch.
The interior I had from my totaled car (1978) is beautiful great condition cork vinyl.
My mutt's interior is mostly black. Headliner, window posts etc. All redone by me so they look lovely. Anyway, can anyone make a recommendation for seat types that work well in this scenario.
I do not plan on racing or tracking the car. Some spirited street and backroad driving, and who know maybe some day a driving lesson... I am looking to have the headroom issue resolved as well as having a comfortable seat. I do kinda have broad shoulders so I remember when I had "Real" Recaros in my 240z in my youth, the lats and shoulders were a tight squeeze.
I have been looking at some aftermarket touring seats on ebay and craigslist.
Anyone have personal experience with these?

Thanks for the input.

Gary

I just bought real Recaro's, local fitter recommended a supportive bottom for me, less supportive for passenger.

All in was about $3000 for both in black cloth.

I have them in my yellow car, cannot say enough good about them, supportive, durable, beautiful

Gary,
Unless you're into cutting your rails, unfortunately with a '78 the only option for a stock interior is finding a sunroof delete coupe with komfort seats. OR, I believe there are racing buckets that sit below the rails but you said, "I do kinda have broad shoulders so I remember when I had "Real" Recaros in my 240z in my youth, the lats and shoulders were a tight squeeze." so that might not be an option. Sounds like you need to sample the chair before you buy.

Thanks gents for the input. I should clarify the interior is from my totaled 78 targa. I am transplanting (or was) into my 1982 chassis.
Thanks again

they are pretty pricey now (based on the classifieds) but the 74-80 sport seats sound like what you want. manual, sit low in the car and they feel great. i love mine and will never replace them. they also function great for track weekends.

Last night I just copied a thumbnail of the GTS Classic Seat.

Seats
Quote:
TRE offers its own drop angle brackets that allow the right rake in mounting these one piece seats. Taller , or long torso, owners appreciate the room these allow, even while wearing a helmet on track days.

You can see how much room is under the seat (click link) to get it near stock height. I believe the standard slider rails allow a much lower height, and this photo shows the high position arrangement.

There are tilting brackets which can be used on the passenger seat, so you can put golf clubs or stuff on the rear seat shelf or clean. However they do not tilt enough from what I've read for an adult to get in and sit back there.

The Cobra RS seats are similar to the GTS Classic seats, but without all the custom options available, hence their lower entry price point. Maybe the GTS's are made better? Well the GTS's are made in the USA anyway.

I think many of the "sport seats" intended for DE events sit lower to accommodate helmet wearing. And many of these seats fold forward (recliners).

Here are a few of my favorites to look at on the Internet - have not sat in any myself.

Lightest weight - and low cost recliner:
Corbeau A4 Reclining Seat

BF-Torino (a real beauty)
Nürburgring R - BF-Autositze

Classic - lots of good knock offs of this.
Recaro Speed

Tilting brackets: an example - others have them too.

Not sure how I missed this in my earlier searches, but Pelican Parts sells some of these same seats. Nice thing about it is they show one of the tilting mechanisms for the passenger side.

I was faced with a similar problem with my '88 Pcar. Only about "two finger widths" between the top of my head and the headliner with the stock high back (not sport) seats. Plus I wanted low back seats with separate head rests and cool cloth center sections. I contacted Stephan at GTS Classics about a pair of his Monte Carlo seats. He was able to build them lower and adjust the thigh bolsters for touring comfort They were actually too low and I have since added spacers to raise them. Not inexpensive but great results and Stephan is very pleasant to do business with.
