European 911 Turbo 1984 Interior Trim

Dear Sirs & Madams...
I would like to share a"quest" of mine with all you specialists. Unfortunately, almost 4 years ago i decided to sell my orig. 930 3.0lt turbo over a SI Flat floor E Type roadster. Although I had driven the Jag before i could not realize that being a Porsche collector (models ranging from 79s till today), such a car could not offer me an adequate driving experience. That led me in a search for a new turbo 911...Prices of the 3.0 lt heading up a stairway to the moon ... i found a 3.3 1984 in red with black interior in need of serious restoration. Searching through your posts, i found that many of you have gone for a tartan/plaid fabric interior trim. I belong to the purist "side" of petrolheads and i am on a quest to find out how original is such an interior. Do you have any idea where could i find a guide of the original tartan fabric options offered originally from porsche - according to MY from Porsche - and in which period could such an interior replacement could be considered as an original aftermarket kind of upgrade. I have to admit though that leather , leatherette, vinyl...cannot be compared with a tartan interior, the second being more of a statement for a sportscar. I am thanking you all in advance and looking forward to your answers.

p.s. Being a non english native speaker, i 'd like to apologize for any grammatical or vocabulary mistakes.

There were three tartan fabrics available for models from 1976 through 1981. I do not believe any tartan fabrics were used after that.

In model year 1984, fabric choices were Patterned cloth, Porsche cloth, Checked Velour and Pinstripe Velour.

You might talk to this company about samples:

OEM Tartan

There are many places you can find good tartan for your seats but if you are looking for OEM Porsche tartan wool then WEST Trading BV is your source. They only deal directly to upholsterers, shops and professionals. Check their online catalog, choose your fabric and have your upholsterer contact them…or just tell them you are one.
Hope this helps
Cheers
MD

Guys, Javadog and Enzoducoing, thank you very much for your replies, they were sure helpful. The question now is if i remain in the side of the purists and go on with the restoration of the interior according to the Porsche Certificate which states a leather interior, or move to the dark side of the force of driving pleasure and do an interior that muches my taste i.e. tartan....

Personal opinion is do what you like. These cars get a lot of attention these days but to me if it were t going to be original, as in untouched seats, I'd do what I like (within reason). If it's done tastefully I don't expect it to hurt much value wise.

If it's resale you're worried about, the cost to swap out some seats and door cards is minimal compared to the six-digit value of the car.

If you replace a worn black leather interior with a new black leather interior, the interior is still not original anyway, sooo...Put in the interior that you want.

Document all the work you do to the car.
