Wiring diagram for '87 Carrera coupe
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an '87 Carrera coupe?
I've got Bentley and Haynes, but I think I need the one that is in the factory manual. I fried the live wire that goes to the alternator warning light in the instrument cluster. I now need to replace the wire. The diagrams in Bentley don't have the detail I need. Haynes doesn't seem to have diagrams for the '86-'87 Carrera. Thanks!

cljsf : What's the problem with "visually" seeing what needs to be replaced (i.e., "burned"),...? No need for a print?
Just curious.... Best, Doyle

jm58, thanks! [devriat etre merci beaucoup?
] One question: is this for the wiring for the '88-'89 Carreras or the '86-'87? Doyle, the wire that I burned is contained within the #2 harness, which is the mother of all harnesses (perhaps after #1 harness). An OEM replacement from Pelican costs >$2k! To remove the whole thing and replace the burned wire is more work than I think I have the skill or patience for, especially since everything else running off the same circuit still seems to be working fine. My alternative solution is to try to sever the other end of the wire (so that it is no longer live) and then run a replacement wire in parallel with the old one. To do that, I need to know where the other end comes out. Trouble is, with the wire running inside the harness, I can't work that out from a visual inspection. The diagram that JM58 provided shows the live red/black alternator indicator wire running back to the #8 fuse on the middle ten fuse block in the luggage compartment, which is switched by the 15A output from the ignition switch. I think this diagram is for the '88-'89 Carreras, which ran the instrument circuit through the fuseboard. On the '87, the circuit wasn't fused but still ran off the 15A ignition circuit. I can quite easily run a new wire from the back of the 100 instrument cluster to the #8 fuse, which I did this afternoon. It seems to work fine. Now I just have to identify the original charging problem that caused me to fiddle with the wiring (and short it) in the first place! For anyone who has read this far, one thing that I don't understand in the wiring diagram is the square numbered boxes called "Schweisstelle". The circuit I am interested in starts at the fuseboard, then runs to Schweisstelle #17, where it splits into three. One of those branches then runs to #8, where it splits in to 8 wires, of which one is the wire I burned. I am guessing that Schweisstelle means junction or something similar. I should therefore try to trace the wire I burned back to the #8 junction and sever it there, so as to avoid having a burned but still live wire running through the harness. Not sure how easy that is to do. If anyone has any knowledge/experience of repairing wiring harnesses, please do chime in! Thanks for all the help guys! Charlie

JM,
I compared the '87 wiring diagrams in Bentley with the '88-'89 and it looks like there is very little difference, so the '88 diagram you proivded is mostly accurate for '87 Carreras. Thanks! I also asked a German friend to translate some of the diagram and "schweisstelle" is a weld, i.e. a cable junction in the harness. Now if I can just work out how to locate the appropriate junction without having to remove and open the entire harness...

Bringing thread back from dead. Looking for an accurate wiring diagram for my 87 Carrera. Are Bentley or Haynes reliable? Anyone have a PDF? Thanks in advance.
