915 Tranny revisited...

I know all of you have been sitting on the edge of your seats, well, it's done.
I let bygones be bygones, sucked it up, and went back the shop I used to work at ( and got a friend back).
It's too frustrating to do major work on your car in a driveway when you're used to having dedicated rooms for engines, transmissions, machine and welding tools.

Here's a little photo off what I found when I actually got to first gear.

I got to look through the parts bins and found everthing that I needed so... this evening or Sat. morning I get my baby back.

Porsche Crest

Looks like all of your 1st gear synchro hub dog teeth got broken and the synchro ring got peeled-off! Nasty noise, I bet!

That's what I can't understand?! There was no noise. It popped out of gear with a good amount of force, I thought maybe my knee hit the shifter. I didn't have to hit 1st until I got home. No first. No noise, very strange.

all the pieces floating around in there is the reason the car should not be driven if you suddenly can't get it in 1st or 2nd gear. that syncro still has it's C shape, but after they go thru the wringer, bad stuff happens to the rest of the gears, and the repair gets considerably more expensive.

You are sooooo right. It happened once before, like I had written in an earlier post, and I knew IMMEDIATELY then that something was wrong. This felt different. Fortunately, I was very lucky. Let this be a lesson to us all.

Not that it makes it any better, but I was only a block away from home.
