1984 911 Just Started Missing
I've only owned the car for a month, no issues and purchased from a trusted client. Out for a simple Sunday drive. Everything running fine. Parked for about 20 minutes. Back out. Start up and idle no problem. She won't go over 40mph or 2.5 duck press before she starts bucking. No lights, temps good, oil gauge pin all the way up at top.
The next question is, best indy shop for D.C. Metro area? |
I'm not a great wrench but I'd start with a DME relay. ( order one here for about $45)
If that's not it, you want a spare anyway. ( 10 minute swap with a screwdriver) |
Dug into service records. DME replaced 5/10 w/ 5yr warranty. part number 050x DME was $850, and relay part number 911-618-154-00 was $97.
Interesting. |
You'll need more replies from better techs, but the DME RELAY is a pretty common failure
|
My sense is that the DME relay (fuel pump) is either a fail or not. Don't believe that it would be intermittent.
More likely a plug wire loose, rotor and/or cap, fuel filter.....all very easy and cheap fixes. Good luck, some more experienced guys than I will weigh in here....Scott |
head sensor
Hi,check cylinder head temp sensor for resistance on the back of #3 cylinder.Fred

I travel up to Lorton from CLT every week. I noticed a shop near by with Porsches always out front - RPM is the name on the building.

A wild shot would be to check your battery voltage, then CHT, reference sensor, speed sensor, o2, check plug connections, check distributor cap ...clean dry, check rotor, fuel filter, coil, fuel tank pickup, fuel pump, vacuum leaks...
--- oil gauge pin all the way --- you may have way too much oil in your car....check your oil by the dip stick only When the car is at operating temperature. |
