removing front fresh air blower

I did exactly as explained in procedure below in my 86 targa, but pulling on the blower unit feels as if it is still attached somewhere. Did I forget something?

Have you removed the 4 plenum screws in first photo and the 2 screws behind it? Only 3 arrows but 4 screws on my car.

the culprit was the tube (water drain tube?) at the bottom of the housing. I had to push it down and off the housing, then some wiggling released the housing from the body and I could remove it. To make things easier I removed the blower motor from the housing before removing the housing.

Why are you removing the blower? Inquiring minds want to know.

Agree! I just replaced the blower motor and have found the joys of fresh air in the cabin, but I didn’t have to remove the housing.

well, three reasons: the first is that I am installing an electric EZ power steering (in a reply you may ask 'why' ) and that is somewhat simpler with the blower housing out. Second is that my car is very well restored, except in this hidden spot where there are plenty of leaves and mice dirt. And third: the AC is not working and needs an overhaul, so I may as well take it out for inspection while I am here. By the way: there is a mistake in the Bentley manual: in the procedure to remove the blower they forgot to mention one needs to unmount the resistor assembly in the passenger area that otherwise locks the blower box in. That is what I felt when trying to pull it out and described in post #1.

I have thought about this as well... I have no AC, backdate heat and windows for fresh air.

I had to remove the blower unit to fix my cigarette lighter.

Team,

I am navigating the same journey. My blower and the case is out. I want to replace the drain tube. I can's find how to remove it or where it ends? I poured water into it, but don't see where it leaks out..

Any idea how to remove it?

Red84 - the drain hose attaches under the fresh air intake, there’s sort of a tray, I think there may be a single hose clamp, the hose runs straight down into the smuggler box and exits thru small hole at the bottom and about 2” of it extends out beyond the undercarriage to the pavement. These corrugated oem hoses get very brittle over time and crack, that water you may have poured down the vent may be pooled in the smuggler box if you still have the ac equipment still in there.
Btw, for a replacement drain hose… I used a universal dishwasher discharge hose - only $11.

Did you document the EZ power steering install ? There where some posts in the past, but as far as I know the setup has changed and they moved the drive down into the smuggler box. If so, does it fit with AC in there ?

Thanks for any feedback.

Any chance of posting a pic of the flap/valve that controls airflow into the cabin? I believe that the seal/foam on mine has failed and needs to be replaced as I cannot completely shut off fresh air.
Pics would sure help.
