What is the "proper" wiring rout for the wire to the defrost lever light?

I'm re-doing some carpet and replacing the little indicator light that is under the defrost lever. Upon removing the carpet, I discovered that the wire for that light was just placed under the passenger side floor carpet. It looks like I could either put it back that way, or rout it under the carpet that covers the tunnel, or....... Is there a proper rout for that cable to follow?
