Boge Dust Cover and bumper assembly order

I removed my Boge strut assemblies and noticed they had no protective tube covers. I bought some covers and bumpers (the tall accordion shaped ones). After I removed the strut mounts I found that there was also two of the 1/2 - 3/4" thick rubber rings installed on top of the old accordion bumpers. The parts diagram doesn't show these. Should they be installed one on top and one below the protective tube or should they just be discarded? Its a '1970 911E.
