Damaged deck lid hinge?
I had my car up on the lift and opened the garage door. Unfortunately I had the deck lid with tail up and the car was high enough that the automatic door hit the deck lid and stalled. When I put the garage door down I noticed that the hinge was now in contact with the body of the car. The driver side hinge is fine. The passenger one is touching and rubs when I tried to close it.
I removed the deck lid shocks and the situation remains the same. Since the hinge rotates about a substantial pin in a bracket connected to the body, I don't see how that point could have moved. The question is what did I damage? The hinge? How would you fix this? Pics below. ![]() ![]() Thanks

Does it still close properly with correct spacing around the decklid?
Is any paint chipped off at the area where the bracket is now touching the body? |

There is no paint off the body but there is a clear mark and paint off on the hinge. It is about 1 inch long and about 0.2 inch wide. The hinge contacts when open and for part of its travel downward.
Because I was concerned with misalignment of the decklid and having it close and become stuck, I did not close the decklid. Since I am in the middle of a major project on the engine, I decided to take the decklid off the car and post here to be prepared when its time to put it back. If we need this data, I can remove the lock plunger and remount it.

Is the bracket mounted to the underside of the rear deck now bent? Maybe compare it to the left bracket. Maybe it's not the hinge part that was bent.

This will sound like heresy, but see if you can bend it back. It's just sheet metal.

Banned but not out, yet..

Remove the deck lid and compare the hinges very carefully. If the suspect side is not bent, then you know it's the mounting point which may need to be forced back into place/submission.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. The car was up on the lift because I am in the middle of an EFI conversion. Once its done, I'll follow up with this and post the resolution.

As suggested I removed the hinges and compared. It showed that the passenger side hinge did bend "closing" itself up a bit. I'm working on pulling it back to match the driver side.
Pictures show the displacement. ![]() ![]()

WOW! I think I'd be looking at adjusting the up and down force of your door opener! I can check to see if I still have a good rear hinge. I used to have 1 or two around.
