??82SC rotor/distributor "post" ??
I pulled off my rotor on my 82 SC and the top of the distributor post is rusted and the felt pad in the center of the post is dry. I thought that the felt pad is to be oiled from time to time and that in some way lubricates the vac. advance in the distributor??
Please enlighten!! |

The cam and central drive shaft for the centrifugal advance is what needs lubricating under the felt!
distributor lube...

Ideally you would strip and clean your dist.
However, a bit of machine oil or the like may help free up the plates and springs that make up the advance mechanism. You may be pleasantly surprised to find a quicker back-to-idle at stops and smoother idle generally. But that is just conjecture on my part. My experience was that there was a BUNCH of old grease and particulates in the body of the dist. and cleaning the unit really made a difference for both smoother idle and takeoff (or was it in my mind?).
