Starter interchangeability

Anyone know what the interchangeability is for early starters?
Like, will a 74 fit a 69, etc..
Thanks.

Yes, the 0.8 hp SR-17 and the 1.5 hp SR-68 starters will interchange ... as both were used in various markets and models in the '72 thru '75 time frame!

Isn't the SR-17 a VW starter?

Yes, the SR-17 was used on several air-cooled VW models, specifically the automatic, and semi-automatic (Saxomat, or 'sportomatic' clone) transaxles ... but it was the original 911 starter, and used from '64 through '76 on selected models.

Good question. Even the early 928 startermotor looks like the SC motor and the part number has only on3e number difference if memory serves me correctly.
