Input Requested: Seat Delimma

I am starting to plan the interior of my soon-to-be Signal Orange '77 3.2 backdate project. I am wanting custom saddle brown leather w/plaid insert seats. I have acquired the leather and plaid upholstery to be used. My original plan was to recover a pair of '80-'84 sport seats with these materials. However, since these will not be even remotely factory correct, I am wondering if this is a mistake in terms of value.

I also have a pair of SC comfort seats, original mid-year comfort seats (in nice original shape) and a pair of scruffy early round button 928 seats. Any of which I could use on this project.

Thoughts? Just redo the sporties and not worry about the value or use one of the other sets? Or something totally different?

Sounds like your car isn't original, so why worry about such an easily reversed modification? A '77 backdate with a 3.2 is an excellent car to make your own. Do what you want with abandon of resale. I will be needing seats for my project, and I might just put Boxster seats in if they don't look goofy.

Unless they are ugly on sight to a buyer, I doubt changing them will affect the value anyway, since 1) being recovered, they are no longer original, 2) they are easily replaced.

I will say that orange on brown is risky aesthetically, but very 70s...

The best option is 74-80 sport seats but those are big $$$ and straying from an original fabric option would reduce the resale. If the car is a keeper do what you want.

It is a keeper. But I am starting to think I should just sell the sport seats and get Stefan at GTS to build me a pair of his with my materials. I just spoke with him and that is something he can do.

I guess it boils down to what constitutes "easily replaced". The time and expense to required find a a nice pair of manual sport seats falls well into the PIA category for me.

Orange, brown and oatmeal! Can you dig it? ; )
