Can anyone help me with this dilemma? I have a 1970 911T with the original 2.2 and Zenith 40TIN carbs. I have installed the individual K&N air cleaner elements and housings, so as to get rid of the stock plastic air cleaner assembly. My question is this: the oil breather hose coming from the neck of the oil filler tube used to plug onto a fitting that on the back of the stock air cleaner box that vented the oil and exhaust fumes back into the carbs for recirculation. The K&N's don't have any kinds of fittings to attach this hose to. The hose blows what smells like exhaust into the engine bay and inside the cabin of the car. Do any of you racers or anyone else have a solution as to where I can attach this hose? Please help!!!

I've seen various catch cans/vent solutions devised. Click on Jack Olsen's home page, then click on the Cambria R Gruppe meet. You'll see various shots of aftermarket air cleaner engines, can view several solutions. edit:If you're going to toss the plastic assembly...don't if it's not warped, you could sell it. If it warped, no longer useable? Yeah, I'm looking for the plastic bolts, wingnuts, washers...please don't toss them, e mail me..I'm looking for spares.

most folks use a small K&N filter on the filler neck. (available from PMO). if yours has blowby and fumes, then you could run a hose down past the engine tin so it vents out by the muffler. we do that on old 912s a lot.

pwd72s: Thanks very much for the reply. I will check out Jack Olsen's website, but what is the address for it? And the aircleaner assembly is in perfect condition, I don't plan on selling it because I figure some day I may want to show the car at a concours. If it was warped or banged up, I'd just give it to you.

Thanks JWW. How much blowby is normal? It is enough to barely see when the car's idling... it's not a great deal. Although I don't know how much smoke is normal, it doesn't seem like an excessive amount. The car has 64,000 original miles on the original internals.
Two other things: 1. the K&N on the filler neck will keep dirt out of the oil system, but it doesn't make the fumes go away. I think the idea of routing the hose under the car or back into the carbs somehow would be better. 2. What is the website address for PMO? Thank you again! |

the breather is going to have some minor pressure. make sure you plug the tube the aircleaner preheat hose went to. also check the two hoses for the rear defrost vents. i don't think PMO has a website. they just use the fax these days.
