opening center console
Hi there.
I've just replaced the cap on the rear of the center console. The old one was cracked. On top of the cap there's a square opening (appr. 2x3 cm) and four little holes (I think they are for tapping screws). Can somebody tell me what is supposed to go in that opening? Thanks, Kees 911 carrera coupe 1985 |
please?

Do you have a picture of what you're talking about? Is it the tray in the center console where the shift boot comes through?

Kees,
Remember what is inside the top of the center console? Your thermostatic temp switch for the A/C... I believe that this 2x3 cm hole is to allow the ambient air from the interior to enter the top of the console and trigger the on/off action of the thermostatic switch on the A/C. If you did not have the hole there then the top of the console would just be holding the heat from the switches inside this area and any setting you made on the thermostat would be in-accurate. Some airflow is needed in this area for accurate operation. Just a guess... JoeA |
Thanks JoeA & Chris,

Kees,
This is the hole I am talking about. Feel that its probably put there to allow airflow inside so that the thermostatic switch will sense the temp to turn the A/C on or off. Hope this is correct... JoeA |
My 83 SC has A/C controls and a fader control for the old stereo system.
