Porsche 1995 993 CR-1 Radio Help Please

I have owned my 1995 993 C4 since new. My radio is a CR-1. I have the radio code. In the past, I have replaced my battery, my radio displays "code" and I entered the code and my radio worked.
I recently replaced my battery and the "code" light displayed on my radio. I didn't have my radio code with me so I guessed and guessed wrong, and now the "code" is no longer displayed. In fact nothing is displayed. I have turned on the ignition and the radio power and the car has been sitting for twelve (12) hours and still no "code" displays. Again, I know I have the correct code, and have changed the battery in the past, and had success resetting my radio. The only difference is this time, I entered the wrong code repeatedly, and can't get the radio operating. Is it possible that the radio needs more time in order to display "code?". Am I on the right path?? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

" Pressing and holding the AM/FM button will bring back the CODE word on the screen to permit entering the code. If you screw up once, you wait 0 minutes; screw up twice, you have to wait 15 minutes, 3 times you wait 30 minutes, 4 times, 45 minutes, and if you're really lucky, you have to wait 60 minutes before you can re-enter the code if you mess up after 5 times. Pressing the AM/FM button for 2 seconds after the permitted period will allow the code to be re-entered."
