Question What is this thing?

Other than rusted and ugly, what is the purpose of this in my 81 Targa?

Thanks for the help

Roger

what does the writing say on top? If you tap it with a handle of a screwdriver does it make a clicking or vibrating noise inside?

Thats what I'm thinking a early 80's motion sensor. Mounted arond front bumper for detection of movement caused by jacking, towing, bumping into etc... Has a set of contacts inside that sound like a clock ticking when you give it a tap. Should also have an adjustment set screw.

I knew one of you geniuses would know!!
It says to add ground wire if not mounted to steel ground. It does have a set screw type apparatus on top and if shaken it does make a noise.
Now where did I put those wire cutters?

Thanks
Roger

On second thought, maybe I should keep it. Anyone know where I can get the Alarm that goes with it? The original is missing. Wiring, mounting etc is still intact.

dont bother, cut it out. You would be better off equiping your car with newer technology.
Although if you wish to keep it the output from this sensor will hook up to pretty well any new system as an external sensor. The new stuff is much better though so if its not in use right now I would take it out.
