Remove Rear Bumper Guards on SC

I want to remove the large US rear bumper guards on my 83SC and replace them with the Euro slim guards. I read pretty much all threads on rear bumper guards removal and cant find a simple answer. Can the bolts that hold the Guards be accessed without removing the bumper or removing the muffler.

I also read conflicting information about the fitment. Some state new holes will need to be drilled while others state that it fits in existing holes. I understand that leftover holes will need a plug. I don't want to weld them up and paint since I would want option to go back to original style. I purchased p/n's 91150534100 / 91150534200.

Thank you for your input

The rear valance and heat shield must be removed to access the nuts that hold on the bumper guards. Tight but doable.

I was able to do so on my 77 widebody with not removing anything. I had to feel my way up there though with a small ratchet.
