Fan belt squeak and proper tension

Hi,

This morning on startup, I got a single squeak out of the engine. It didn't happen again, even when I started a second time. I've noticed that I think the fan belt is a bit loose. When running, the fan belt seems to balloon slightly outwards, but as I hadn't heard any slipping until today, I thought it might be normal. I can fairly easily push the belt about a half inch inwards, and the belt on the A/C seems tighter.

Here's a link of a video of me pushing on the fan belt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qx1jNt0sqY

A few questions:
  • Should the belt have that much give?
  • I only see the continental belt with our host, where can I get the Porsche belt? Or is the Conti OK?
  • Anything else I should diagnose for that squeak? It did rain last night, but the car seems to be running fine now after being warm.

You can get the OEM belt from a dealer. It will fit differently than what the host sells. The correct fitting belt will be hard to get on.

Anyone else's fan belt keep getting loose?
Dealer alternator belt that is way too small/tight? (9.5 x 710)

have you tried removing one of the shims from between the pulley halves and seeing how that affects the belt's tension? (be sure to put the removed shim just inside of the bolt you use to tighten back up the assembly. Your belt looks a bit looser than mine, but it doesn't look like you can move your fan while the belt's on (which is what I'd look for).

I'd personally start with adjustment before replacement.
