Painting Targa Bar
I will be painting my Targa Bar this weekend. I did this on my last Targa and after sanding priming and using black stain paint, I am thinking about using satin clear coat as a top layer. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with satin clear coat.

I think there is no clear coat.
When I got my done we used 2 part satin black paint professionally sprayed. Once hardens it's there for good.

How will you be applying the matte/satin clear? Gun or rattle can?

I painted mine with black lacquer then polished to a mirror finish. I think it looks great and contrasts well with the vinyl texture of the top.
Also fits the overall '80s 'blinginess' of Targas. That and my ducktail and decal. |

Interested to see your results. I used SEM trim black in rattle can and the coat came out great, but my wetsanding did not. Plus no crinkle finish b/c I stripped mine to the metal (may have been better just to paint over the texture?
I know you can texture it with some sequence of chemicals, or even with powder coating, but I didn't do that and am not 100% crazy about the finish. Might just do it again somehow.

ive done this a few times, wurth-krylon-duplicolor. the last time came out great. i sanded it down to metal, primed with rustoleum grey, lightly wet sanded that then applied rustoleum custom shop matt black then applied rustoleum matt clear. its a great combo, the matt black is really black and the matt clear puts the right sheen onto it

Wurth makes a great spray paint in a can. Possibly the best to spray. |

i agree the wurth matt is probably the best stuff. i stole the formula i used after some research. i saw the after pics and i liked the way it looked. a bmw guy posted some pics of trim pieces that he did that way.

i took the easier way and plasti-dip'd it. i liked the results and it took me longer to remove and install the bar than it did to "paint" it.
