Seat Cable Shaft: Any Other Replacement Options?

New carpets and seat covers are on-deck for my 87 Cabriolet. One item that needs replacing is the driver's side "seat cable shaft" part number 92852167103 - it's a very short piece of squared cable that connects a seat adjustment motor to one of the adjusting mechanisms. The old one was twisted to bits after the PO (or his so-called wrench) mounted the seat crookedly, causing it to bind in it's tracks.

This tiny piece of cable is a special order item that goes for +$40!

Given what I'm already spending on this project it's not a big number, but my need to be inventive and resourceful is kicking in - any suggestions out there for an alternative?

Here's the pic:

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

It's a pretty specialized little cable... Just gotta pay up unfortunately.

Not an uncommon problem area. I have done a couple on our 993 over the years.

I will tell you to make SURE the square cable end is fully seated into the drive motor or adjuster.

If you get it part way in and operate it you will ruin the new cable...learned that the hard way. ☹

Cooper - I suspect you may be right. Fortunately I have at least a few weeks before the carpet and covers arrive to attempt another fix, but thanks for confirming that I'm not alone.
