Alignment question...
The SC is going to be getting a new set of "R" compound tires in the next couple months, and I thought I would treat her to an alignment at the same time.
My question is can just about any decent alignment shop do it if I give them the specs I want? Or should I drive 120 miles or more and have it done? |
My experience on this one says you will have trouble getting a tire / alignment shop to align it properly, even to factory specs let alone the aggressive setup you want.
Problem is they 1) don't know how to do it 2) won't take the time to do it right. They'll set the front toe and send you on your way with a printout showing the alignment out of spec, then tell you: Choose one: a) These cars don't have a caster/camber adjustment b) This is the closest we could get to the spec, maybe the frame is bent c) This is how all porshs are When I've tried to get it aligned to my custom performance specs I've been told: i) We won't give any warranty ii) We won't do anything except factory specs ii) Where did you come up with those specs and what makes you think you know what your talking about I end up standing there babysitting while the alignment is performed, screaming when they try to put the lift under the floor and explaining the function of the rear toe/camber bolts. I've even taken wrench in hand with guys that insist it can't be done. Usually takes 4+ hours. I'm getting pissed just thinking about it. Next time I'm doing my own alignment. Failing that, I'd go to a specialist like Custom Alignment on the east bay. |
Chuck,
That's the reason I insist on doing my own alignments on my 911. I don't need to hear excuses, just want it done right and to my specs. Cheers, Joe |
Matt,
Is the 120mi drive south to Sacramento? If so maybe we can get together since I missed you at the SilverStar Swap Meet. |
If you do come to Sacramento, OK Tire & Wheel knows how to do 911s and it's ~$89. (916) 338-6910 They have a long-standing relationship with the local PCA chapter.

It looks like I'll be going to sacramento then, once I get the tires.
