Question Clutch Pedal Resistance in Cold Weather

Hello, all. Pennsylvania is getting cold. When I started driving the 84 Carrera home tonight, temps were in the 40s. New sensation (the cold always brings these out). The clutch pedal feels like the cable is catching on something slightly each time I depress it and each time I lift up. It happens right around half way. The clutch itself is disengaging/engaging without any problem and the transmission is acting fine. It just feels like something is tugging on the cable two or three times as the pedal travels to the floor and again as it travels back up. Any ideas? It seemed to go away ten or fifteen minutes after the car reached operating temp. Clutch was last replaced about five years and 70k miles ago, and adjusted about 18 months ago. It hasn't given me any problems until now. Thanks!

I'd look at three things.

1. The clutch lever helper spring. It's a C shaped spring attached to the tranny and clutch lever. Mine's kinda creaky, and the temperature might be affecting yours.

2. The pedal cluster. Make sure it's still lubed up. Simply pull your driver's side carpet, remove the bolt at the bottom of the footpanel (made of wood!), and pull it out. Make sure everything has a nice coat of WD-40 and a little lithium grease won't hurt either on the moving parts.

3. Prime suspect: your clutch cable. They wear out eventually. It's about a 2 hour r & r, less if you've done it before. Not terribly hard and fun to do, too. Another good candidate for white lith grease.
