AAR - High Idle

Hi All-
I have a stock '81 SC that starts up and idles around 2000 rpm, once warm it stays there. I have read through the archives and tested the AAR and found;
- 12 V present at connector
- I discounted the left hose and plugged it along with the intake to the AAR. This causes the idle to drop to normal.
- I have not removed the AAR to check the resistance.

Is there anything else I should check before replacing the AAR? Also would there be any adverse affects driving with the hoses plugged? Any help is appreciated. :p

You don't need to replace your AAR unless the heating element is bad. You'll know once you check the resistance.

It does sound like the AAR is staying open, but the rotary valve may just be stuck. You can disassemble, clean, and also bend the bi-metallic strip to change how long the AAR is 'open'.

Yes, you can drive the car with the AAR removed and the hoses plugged.
