Christmas present for my Porsche mechanic

After buying my p-car this summer, my mechanic (my father) has helped me with nearly every repair. I figure he's saved me at least $1,000 in labor costs and I thought I'd get him something nice for Christmas.

Unfortunately, he is not as "in" to Porsches as I am. However, he does like nice tools. What sort of tool(s) could I get him as an appreciation gift that cost around $30? Keep in mind that this is a supplemental gift for my father (in a mechanic sence); I've already bought a present for my father (in a father sense).

How about couple of sets of Mole grips. A large and a small. They're always useful regardless of your skill level and on some jobs they're like having an extra hand.

Steve, Craftsman has come out with a new 3/8" drive ratchet...thinner head than their standard models, fully polished, with a very comfortable handle. Only 5 degees between clicks. IMHO it rivals snap-on. Alas, it's $40..and you'll probably end up spending twice that. One for dad, one for yourself? Oh, the Craftsman # is VR-44995. One of those tools that just "feels good" when you pick it up...disclaimer: I've never worked for Sears...

I purchased my father-in law a real nice hand crafted model car...made out of wood! Very nice, and under $40.00

Buy him his own maple tree in Vermont from which all syrup will be sent directly to him. If he likes good pancakes or waffles or the like, he will LOVE this stuff!!

How about:

Square Drive External Torx Sockets
Heat-treated alloy steel sockets have a black finish.
7-Piece Set— Includes 1/4" square drive sizes E6, E7, E8, and 3/8" square drive sizes E10, E12, E14, and E16. Furnished with a clip rail.
5588A44 Per Set $24.26

This description is from http://www.mcmaster.com/

If you ever need these they are handy to have...used on a lot of BMW's if he's into those...haven't found any on my P-cars.

Or maybe get him a P-car speciality tool for the next job you'll need done (hint, hint). One source would be: http://www.sirtools.com/ They have some cool P-car tools.

I've no affiliation with McMaster or Sir Tools, but have purchased tools from both.

toss him the keys to your car and give him $30.00, tell him to take your mom out for a spin and some ice cream.

After reading the title of your thread, I was all prepared to say that as much as Porsches cost to maintain, your mechanic should buy YOU a Christmas present. But since it's your Dad helping you save some big bucks, I say get him a gift certificate from Sears.

Ohhh...this is a GREAT idea! Even "mix" pancakes with this atop 'em? Gotta quit typing...just the thought is making me drool on the keys...

Not my dad, but my mechanic will get a case of Michelob Light.

Whatever pumps your pistons.
