Hello Pelicans!
I am swapping out seats on my '83SC. The new to me seats didn't have rails, so pulling off the old ones. Take a look at the "collar" or bushing on the handle mechanism (it's on the left, even with the left-most end of the rail in the picture). It *kinda* looks like it was once attached to the side of the rail. The bushing doesn't appear to want to rotate when I hold it with a pliers. If this is something I want to tack weld in place, I'd like to do it now by bringing the rail to a local shop. Any thoughts here? Also, other than greasing the rails, any other rehab that's worth doing? Definitely some surface rust here, esp at the part of the mechanism that connects with the "teeth" of the rail (that rotates when you rotate the handle). Anyone recommend re-painting at this time? Thanks, Pelicans! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes. Tack weld those spots and repaint this a good etch primer then trim black will have them looking new! We also add some heavy wheel bearing grease (yellowish-gold stuff not the black) to the inner track that the ball bearings roll on. This helps keep the tracks in good shape and also quiets up the rails when no one is sitting in the seat.
Hope that helps

The bushing that you've advised to tack weld seems kind of frozen in place. Any advice on how to loosen? And, where do I want to look for someone to tack weld this for me? Local garage? Or other go-to place?
