Smuggler's box blower - purpose?

I'm in the process of lightening my 1974 Targa. To start with, I've torn out the interior (including HEAVY rear seat/carpet underlay), rear seats, spare tire, jack, door panels (RS inserts going in) and worthless 41 year old AC components, saving at least 250 pounds. With a 3.0L in the back, it really goes nicely now, and that flat six sounds glorious without all the insulation!

My question is if I should continue with the blower in the frunk "smuggler's box." While I won't be needing AC, I'd like for the windshield defog / defrost to work on humid mornings and I'm unsure whether this blower is attached to the dash defrost vents or if that air comes from the under dash blower(s) or the heater blower in the back. I can't seem to find the answer from Wayne Dempsey, Pelican, or Google. Any thoughts?

If you have AC, then there are two blowers in the front. The blower in the smugglers box simply pulls air in from the cabin (behind the passenger-side floorboard), runs it past the heat exchanger, and then back into the cabin via the vents under the dash.

The other front blower is directly below the windshield and pulls fresh air from the intake grill. This is the blower that is controlled by the levers in the dash.

On my '75 Targa, I left the blower in the smuggler's box but removed the heat exchanger. I removed the front condensor blower and ran an inlet tube from the front condensor air pick-up to the blower in the smuggler's box. I use this for added fresh outside air when it is hot outside.

Thanks very much, Fanaudical!
I'm going to investigate further when my car gets back from suspension work, but it sounds like I'm going to take the blower out of the smugglers box... and perhaps put a lightweight battery there.
Cheers!
