Fuel related breather hoses

All the breather related hoses under the hood appear to be original (1970) and they need replacing. Because they are so shrunken, discolored and brittle, it’s hard to tell what type of hose they are/were. Are they supposed to be opaque or clear? I was kind of surprised they weren't the dark grey braided type. Can I use any type of tubing or is there something “special” about it?
