Since I purchased the car 5 months ago, I've always has a slight growl (not grind) AFTER I am in first gear and accelerating. The growl only happens once in a while. There was a post about 2-3 weeks about growling, it appears a slight growl is normal. I looked over the PO maintenance record and did not see a transmission oil change so I decided to change it.
Oil removed was dark I refilled the tranny with Mobil 1. Started her up and took it for a ride to see if I can notice a difference. The difference is that it growls LOUDER and for a longer duration. Drove the car a few miles but not high revving or at highway speeds. The sound only happens off the line. Any one experience this? Am I using the "right" transmission fluid? ------------------ Randall '88 911 Cab |

I've heard that when you switch to a synthetic oil, you should run it for 1000 miles and then change it again. Supposedly, a new, synthetic oil will collect whatever particles are left in there. So it's good to give it another flush.

the factory had a bulletin where they installed a rod from the side of the trans to one of the heat exchangers to transfer the noise. G50s do have normal gear rattle at various low rpm, low load situations.
