Front torsion bar poling through front carrier :-(
 

In the process of dealing with fueling issues (cleaning carbs, different fuel filter setup, etc.). While replacing my in tank screen I noticed 1 of my torsion bars was about 8 mm sticking out of the front of the carrier ("dust" cap is gone). So, now yet another thing to deal with.

Not sure what would make it walk? Wonder how much bite is still left in the back. Certainly not going to drive it like that. Thought I'd be back on the road soon, doesn't look like it now :-(.

do you mean it came out the back side of the a-arm where the adjustment cap is suppose to be ir out the front?

It's still there in the rear, just not sure how much.

most likely your battery has eaten thru your gas tank support panel. the front mount of your control arm (on the driver's side) will break loose eventually. requires a new panel. no easy fix. you'll need a good frame machine to do it square. sorry it's not good news. cheers, geoff

Umm, no, that's not it. The TB has somehow walked forward maybe an inch. No rust, everything is in tact. I'll have to remove covers, pull it back, etc. Not a huge deal, but more work.

Sounds like engine failure. Better throw out the transmission and redo the wiring to be safe.

That missing dust cover should have kept the bar in place with desired spline engagement. It's easy to check how much of the splines you have in the rear adjuster.

Just back the adjuster screw out so you can take the cap off. Tap the bar back into place. Get an appropriate size washer, weld it into the opening of the front of the A arm. Fill the bolt hole and paint. If you don't have the means you'll want to just take the A arm off and send it to someone. Setting the front suspension is simple. So this isn't a major problem.

When backing the adjuster screw, keep take of the number of turns and how the adjuster sits so you can get back to you setting (or very close).

Support the car and suspension so the A arm doesn't move and change your reference.

You'll want to read up on front suspension of what I posted above is not familiar.

Unweight the front end and knock it back in with a big plastic hammer.

It's up on a midrise lift now. I can order the caps from our host cheap enough and I'll weld them on.

Not a huge deal, just wasn't part of my original plans.
