Bent/restricted oil tank breather tube
Hello all,
In poking around the engine bay prepping for the upcoming emissions test, I noticed that the lower of the two oil tank breather tubes that bends at a 90 degree angle is a bit restricted. I am referencing the two breather outlet found at the top of the oil tank filler neck. In saying restricted I am meaning that it appears to have occurred over time, the 90 degree bend in the braided hose has kinked slightly before it reached the hose connection sleeve that continues it to the engine case. The restriction is not to the point of being completely folded, but not far off. Does this have any ill effect on the venting capability? being 25mm or 1", it can move a substantial amount air. In searching the parts area I have found one possible solution but thought I should pose the question to you who have more technical expertise than I. A little about the hose, as it proceeds from lower oil tank vent outlet and makes a 90 turn then is attached to the longer hose via a sleeve connector then proceeds toward the back of the engine behind the CIS system. Not sure why the hose has been cut, unless for ease of engine removal. Either way, it was done prior to my ownership. cheers

You have a 78 SC.
Get the preformed hose that was stock for your application. You need, if it's not there, a restrictor inside the hose so when you remove the tank cap the engine stumbles instead of stalling The hose runs from the tank filler neck to the black rubber connector on the back of the connector between the throttle body and the airflow sensor. The hose your using is typically 60s ans early 70s Bruce |

Is it possible to make that swap with the engine in the car? The restrictor you mentioned, could that be the metal sleeve that is shown in the 1st pic of my existing hose or is it attached to the black rubber connector? The car stumbles when I remove the oil cap so it's in place. It was my understanding that the restricted hose in question ran to the engine case buried below the CIS. Cheers T
