Is my oil pressure to high? Any ideas why?

Hi Guys,

I have recently noticed that my oil pressure seems a bit too high.

It is at the top end of the guage an appears to be going off scale at anything above 2500 rpm cold and 3500rpm hot.

I am assuming that I have an oil pressure relief valve problem.

I would love to know peoples thoughts on this.

I am running a 20w50 oil as is specified for my climate.

Cheers and thanks

Stewart

Could be the oil pressure sending unit, check wires and or check sending unit with a multimeter possibly, this happen to me years ago. I replaced with a new one, gauge readings where they should be.

Without verifying with perhaps a mechanical unit you are just forever guessing .

The needle should drop when the relief valve pops open. If this does not happen, check all as above.

I would verify if the pressure is correct. My pressure indicator goes up to 5 bar and eventually it failed. A pressure gauge is the best way of teating.

I've found that oil pressure senders are almost consumables in the 911.... not sure why, but I've been though a few of them. If you get a new one, recommend staying away from URO. I'm aware the general reputation of URO parts around here is not that great, but I think some of their parts are acceptable. From my experience, however, this is not one of them.

if the connection bewteen the sender and the meter is bad or weak a high pressure reading will be the result. Take the wire off and it pegs to the top.

Cold weather and thick oil will result in very high pressure readings. Keep RPM's low until pressure goes down.
