1982 sc temp
 

hello,just wanted to say that the needle of the oil temp of my 1982 cs is almost always at the last white line in traffic,and when going on the road at 100 mph.is it normal?

My 82 ran just as hot as well, so it must be normal. But for some reason, my 87 runs much cooler.

If you want to know oil temps, get an IR point and shoot thermometer and check engine temps at several points. This will give more information than the "needle...always at the last white line." Probably the oil temp is normal but check it.

I have not owned my car very long, nor put a lot of miles on it, nor have I sat in traffic on a hot day, but my needle has never even gone half way up. I wonder if it's a gauge calibration or sending unit issue? Or perhaps there's a kink in an oil line from an errant jacking by a PO? Or maybe I just haven't pushed it far enough, or perhaps each car is just different.

IR temp gauge is cheap and useful tool. Get one and be done calibration BS.

Read my "Texas vs the Targa" thread for a lot of info on SC cooling. Upgrading the trombone cooler to a Carerra cooler from an 85, and setting the timing to spec, cooled my car down quite a bit.

A thermocouple that you drop into the oil tank works better than an IR gauge. (those are still useful to have, but thermocouple gives you a better reading.)
