Clutch Related Noise
79 911SC, stock. I had my clutch, throw out bearing, related seals, etc., re-done about 25,000 miles ago. Lately I have had an intermittent noise when letting the clutch out from a stop. It's a loud, rotating noise akin to gravel turning in my childhood rock tumbler. It seems to be coming from the bell housing area, or dead center to the car and behind me. It's pretty loud and when the clutch pedal is fully released the noise is gone and all is well. No problem with other shifts/gears. It will always make the noise when starting from a stop on an incline like the exit to a below ground parking garage which is thrilling to hear! I hope the mechanic that worked on the clutch did what I paid him to do. Ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Something came loose obviously, a bolt or two or the retaining washer was reveresed on the TOB???
Raise the car, remove the left rear wheel and reach into the inspection hole on top of the 915. Have a helper gently depress the pedal and feel for slop. If All tight spray some chainsaw lube down on top of the TOB, straight down not toward the clutch. See if that helps. If it was me I would drop the gear box. |
possibly a bad cv joint. Mine did that years ago when pulling away from a stop.
