Year of fuel tank
Is there someplace that a stamped date can be found on a fuel tank? If no is there a way by looks or stamping to tell what range of years it was produced? Maybe color, shape or other markings.

I've never heard of a date stamp on a steel tank, just the plastic tanks and level sending unit. Early SWB tanks had a smaller vent tube than early LWB. I believe early LWB tanks may have been black, and around '71 light grey or olive. Later tanks with CIS swirl pot have a strainer in the bottom. First year 1973.5 have full size spare, 74 on space saver.
65 and 69 gas tanks Porsche 1973.5 CIS fuel tank

Ed thanks for chiming in. I'm fitting this tank into a 70T and trying to verify the year. Believe it's a 22 gal. Maybe a 1984 but not sure.

Same tank was used for '74-89.
