Brake Caliper Rebuild.....

Hi Pelicans,

I am currently rebuilding the rear brake calipers on my 77 911S. I have just received a rebuild kit from ATE which comprises of the rubber seal, the metal clip ring and an extra rubber ring. When I dismantled the calipers this extra rubber ring was not present. Anybody know what it is for? Is it for another make of Caliper Piston perhaps? I have the steel calipers which I believe are the 'M' type. Here are some photos...

As they came out.

Old seal at the top and the new one with the extra rubber ring at the bottom.

Any info and suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers.

That is the seal in the caliper bore that seals the piston to the bore. You probably haven't removed it from the old caliper yet!?

It is the piston seal that sets in a groove in the cylinder bore. Clean your bores and you will find the old ones to R&R.
