Targa Baja California 2015 Documentary
Some around these parts may know about the Targa California, and the Targa Baja California offshoot organized by Dave B of TRE Motorsports. Well, on the 2nd outing of the latter, I made a documentary about the event.
Here is the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh9kTMJyFWU ![]()

looks so fun! I was lucky and got to spend some time with dave a couple months back, he told me all about this, it's now been put on the bucket list.

My year is basically spent waiting and preparing for the next Targa Baja. I was one of the sparse few that went the first time in 2014.

let me first properly terrify Porsche owners about driving in Baja
1. The shoulder of most major roads is about 8 to 12 inches high, layers of asphalt are placed but never ground down. Drop a wheel and watch the sparks fly 2. TOPES (speed bumps) appear out of no where. 3. The steepest grade of roads in North America exist in Baja 12+ degrees of grade in some places. 4. Cattle fence is non-exsistent and burros love the warm highways to lay on when its cold 5. BTW, kill a cow and its the law to find the owner 6. Best of all, Napoleonic law is the rule, Guilty until proven innocent in all traffic matters. Having said all that, I still enjoy my own private 4 mile road race course at Bajamar (K77 on Hwy 1D) and hold the track record there too ![]() ![]() No bad days in Baja ![]() Fish tacos forever ![]()

El Mirador is where the dangerous curves above the bay cliffs start

Yikes, trying to recap all the cars I've done targa California in isn't easy.
My first run was in my 72t, midnight blue that I sold right after the event. Then, I borrowed a friend's lightweight backdate that he shipped out for another event. Then I drove out in my silver 79 Sc lightweight, the paint was literally flying off that car. Natter that event it got a full glass-out bare metal respray at john esposito's shop. So, I did targa again in the freshly painted car. I took last year off due to work commitments, and I'll be back in May with blucille, my 72 t hotrod. now sporting a period correct 2.4 motor built to 2.7 RS spec with Mfi. And blucille will stay out for targa baja again.....at some point I will ship her home. Maybe my 964 powered 83 SC will swap places with blucille.

Let's clear it up...
The Targa California is really great fun. The Targa BAJA California is the most fun you can have on a road trip! It is no contest. The first Targa Baja was awesome. The 2nd was even better but it did have an issue: Where was Officer Carlos? (The coolest Federale ever!!!)

I'm hoping to make the Baja this year. Being from Illinois we are planning to spend a few days driving out via a Route 66 trip. Then cap it off with the Baja and fly back and have the car shipped back. Making this trip is my main goal this year.

I believe Dave is capping the signups at 50 cars this year. 62 proved to be a bit much to handle in 2015. First year we only had 27, so... yeah.
