Star European Inc, Costa Mesa, CA

All,
Has anyone done any business with Star European Inc, out of Costa Mesa, CA? I saw a 912 for sale and inquired about the paint job and was curious as to who did it, they said they painted it themselves---That being said, I called them and asked questions and it seemed like I was not getting a "solid feel" of them, maybe it's me maybe I caught him at a bad time. It just seemed like I mentioned that my own 912 not theirs needed a paint job, and it was more about when I can get the car to them....welcome any input as to who has done business with them. Thanks
Gordon

I'm local to them and I looked at a few of their cars a few months back and met with one the owners. I didn't buy anything but in my brief experience the owner seem like pretty straight shooter and have been in the business for quite some time. At that time they had a 930 and a bunch of later model MBs. The cars I saw looked like honest cars however I didn't see anything that they had restored themselves.

I didn't get the feeling that they had a whole lot of patience for a bunch of questions about the history and "nut and bolts" of their cars. Instead, they had the attitude of handing you the keys and letting you drive and check the cars out yourself - which I appreciate but understand it wouldn't work as well if you didn't walk in and see the cars yourself.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Calling about getting your car painted by them might stir more interest if they were doing it themselves and not handing it to a 3rd-party. That might be the case here. Otherwise, unless the guy handling your call thought you might want to purchase a second 912 you may be perceived by them as a "tire kicker" and so he was brusque.
