Tips on shipping seats?
 

Looking to ship some seats. Thinking of using U-haul wardrobe boxes and going UPS ground, but am wide open to suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

I got a Bumper box from a bodyshop, adjusted the seats to fit, cut the box,
taped it up, the new owner sent a trucking Co. to retrieve. All worked out perfectly all the way to Florida from Seattle. Mine were '72 seats, not tombstones, same suggestions apply.

Also check into Greyhound. Seriously.
I shipped SSI's and a muffler from CA to NY so a Canadian guy could drive over and pick them up.

It was about 1/4 the cost of UPS or Fedex.

You have to box and take to your local Greyhound station, person recieving them has to pick up at their Greyhound station.

I was quite skeptical at first, but it worked out great. Took about 5 days if I remember right.

The items are hand carried by bus operator from bus to bus for transfers etc.

I had some shipped to me via Greyhound. Much cheaper than UPS or FedEX and got to me as fast as the other shippers offerings. Was able to track shipment via Greyhound
online app. Only downside is having to go to the Greyhound terminal to pick up versus
home delivery.

Cant beat the U-Haul wardrobe box. Cheap and strong. Greyhound shipping is cheaper but it takes longer than UPS ground.

Trick with boxes is 22" vs 24".

22 X 22 X 36 are about 100.00 cross country Fedex ground. 24 X 24 X 36 same weight are 195.00. 2" dbled the price unless you're talking greyhound. They don't care. Only problem is THEY DONT CARE. I use Home Depot large moving boxes 2 to make a taller box and save 10.00 over wardrobe box (yes it's a 24" box) and added shipping to boot. Put both seats 69 into same box. I've done this as much as any Dismantler

Ditto on Greyhound. Don't rule out a couple layers of bubble wrap instead of cardboard, if you can get it cheap or free.

Another positive experience with Greyhound ($150) for a set of sport seats from Arizona to Virginia.

I shipped a set of SC seats several years back by disassembling the seat backs at the fold hinge, bagged the hardware and fit everything nicely into the biggest box I could find at the local shipping office. Sorry, can't remember the box dimensions offhand, but wasn't as large as you'd think it would need to be once seats are disassembled. Sent it via FedEx for under $50

Oh, and I sent the buyer digital pictures along with instructions how to reassemble the seats.

Greyhound used to be the cheap way, not so much anymore. ForwardAir, portal to portal is way cheap.

The problem with Greyhound here in Canada they won't insure for more than $100, maybe different in the U.S. I found FedX the best and they will insure.

If you are going to use the seats as is, make sure to wrap them them with something non abrasive as rubbing against the cardboard for 1500 miles will pretty much wear through the cover.

I have had very good experiences with utilizing UShip. I frequently get cars transported on there for half the price or less versus using auto shipping brokers (scammers galore).

I have also shipped engines/transmissions and entire body kits (bumpers, side skirts, etc) either ratcheted down on pallets or packed nicely in boxes for very reasonable rates.

I routinely put my shipment request bids lower than what the website says is a likely minimum bid for shippers to accept. There is almost always a few private/smaller (mom and pop type) companies that will accept.

The only annoying aspect is getting ridiculous offers for shipping from the big auto shipping brokers/companies that are still on UShip.
