Difficulties EU bumper guard instal
Hi all,
I was just busy installing my EU bumper guards on the back and find out that it's not working. I've deleted the big and heavy american guards of my 1980 SC. Welded the holes, drilled new ones and repainted everything after taking it apart. When putting the bumper and the underneath together i've wanted to install the guards and find it not fitting http://i67.tinypic.com/10nx3ja.jpg So i thought when removing the underneath of the bumper and installing the guards first it maybe can help. The bumper guards fit properly but i can't get to the holes to attach the underneath. http://i63.tinypic.com/2wml1ty.jpg Do i need other modifications to help this fit? or do i something wrong? Thanks SmileWavy |
I know there are two different part numbers - one for the non-turbo and one for the turbo. However, I thought this only effected the fit with the rear valance, not with the holes in the bumper.
I recently did this same modification (twice actually, as I found a euro bumper blade after I did the initial swap). Everything bolted right up. Initially I had two exposed holes from the US pads - but the other posts lined right up. The hardest part was making sure I followed the steps to remove the bumper/bellows. Something seems amiss... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1458588954.jpg |
What part number are the bumperettes you are trying to install?
|
The part number is 911.505.341.00 and 911.505.342.00
These are for the non turbo version. |
From what I know bumprettes with part no that starts with 911 should work with pre-carrera bumper. When i bought a 74 bumper with those euro bumprettes same part no as yours, I tried to mount them on my carrera bumper and had issues you are having. The bottom part does not flush with the carrera valance as it not bent inward unlike the pre carrera valance.
|
So i need to order other guards for non pre carrera valance?
|
The supplier mention that the rear valance maybe can be renewed once and that i'm better can try the guards of a 3.2.
I can give it a try |
You have the right part number.
Maybe your car has been modified. There are a few threads where they compare the rear valance of the carrera (part number 930) and the SC and before (part number 911) Before you buy more parts find pictures. But it seems that your rear valance is more to the back of the car pushing your bumperette. My old car if being painted so I can't take a picture. But your valance looks like my carrera |

Good that you have an option from your supplier with the 930 part number. It seldom pops up here at PP. I was looking for that before and could not wait so I settled for a 74 bumper for cheap money:D I just added a rear fog light and turbo bumper strip for added flavor to my arse.\\http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1458663311.jpg

I may be looking at the same problem. I have a pair of the same Euro buffers (PET nomenclature) that I want to fit to an '88 Carrera. Would the best fit result from replacing the Carrera rear valance with one from a SC? Do not mean to hijack WSout_R's post, just looking for clarity. Or get and substitute the SC or earlier bumper assembly?
|
If I recall, I tried to swap the valance of the 74 to my carrera bumper and the holes was not lining up.

930 505 031 00 / 930 505 032 00 are for 84 to 89 turbo's and non turbo's
I used these on my 86 carrera From this: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps31ba6888.jpg To this http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps4elrvty1.jpg |
I see now with the pictures.
the rear valance of Dennis is like mine more in front then the valance of JQ911. |
Looking at your picture, I think the bumper guard is upside down. Try that one on the right side.

The guards for the 3.2 work perfectly! Just traded these for the SC in and fitted them.
So if you're rear valance stands up more the 930 505 031 00 / 930 505 032 00 works fine! I just find one other problem now. I don't know if it has to do with the guards or not. But on the left side my rubber seals on the bumper fits perfect to the bellows. On the right side they seem to short now. Left: http://i64.tinypic.com/2istyqv.jpg Right: http://i63.tinypic.com/j9at81.jpg The bumper is all the way down to the impact struts. But i have the feeling when i have a look from the top that the right side is not that deep like the left side. Or is it just the impression because the seals don't fit. http://i67.tinypic.com/2rf3g8z.jpg |
I think your left side is too close.

I heard that you can adjust the plastic rings in the shock absorber.
Anyone did this already? |
