Rhino Line'd my fuel tank
My 75 wide body project car needed a new fuel tank thanks to rust. When the new Dansk tank came from our host painted black....and I wanted protection similar to the thick, rubbery coating the factory put on tanks. I thought "Rhino Line it!" I have to say I am pretty happy with the results. It cost $100 to have done, and was finished in a few hours. Just a thought for anyone else.

Looks rugged! Any idea how much weight it added?

I did not weigh it.....but between carrying it in and carrying it back out to my car...negligible......especially considering the protection. Some bed liners are laid into the bed like 1/4"+ thick. This is no where near that thick.... I think a gallon of Rhino Liner is about 5lbs...and there used less than a quart I would imagine.

There was a Mythbusters episode where they did an entire car- it actually had less accident damage in their tests.

![]() I had a car like that about 30 years ago. Great commuter car for $75! You know how people on the freeway will just start changing lanes through you? With this car they would start, take a good look, then recoil in terror! - 76 Corolla with red paint faded to a tasteful flat, almost orangish color. (√) - Visible damage on all four sides. (√) - The grill mashed in so I had to use a 6' prybar to get the passenger side headlight up high enough to keep from scaring nightcrawlers. (√) - A special mod was the wheelbase on the passenger side was a little over an inch shorter then the driver's side so it would go around left turns like gangbusters! (√) - And the final crowning touch was a torn Raiders bumpersticker on the back with the "R" torn off so it read "Aiders". (√) ![]() (Uhhh, what were we talking about again?)

Can they do grey? Like something that more closely matches at least the grey that my '88 has.

It is a rougher feeling finish than the factory. You can coat it with something that then enables you to paint it any color. That is apparently not tough to do.
As for a whole car....the underside maybe. Our cars (most of them) has a rubbery coating on most of the underbody to reduce stone damage and noise. Rhino Liner, or something similar, would make a great substitute I think.

I used a DIY Rhino Line kit to do my tank in grey. Applied it with a regular under-body coating spray gun, though it can apparently also be either applied with a foam roller, or dabbed on with a paint brush. Very happy with the results and it looks very close to the original coating.
