wur, frequency valve, fuel dist.

Anybody ever hear of this…… Took my car to the mechanic, as I was unable to diagnose a “missing” problem at a steady rpm. And he told me that the problem was (1) bad WUR and (2) No Frequency Valve! He said I also had the wrong fuel distributor and it would not accept a frequency valve, so, I was always going to have problems. Are there any setups that don’t require a freq. valve? Is any of this frigin possible? I mean the car has a little miss. If it was the wrong fuel dist. wouldn’t it run like a dog? Or not at all? So…….i had him put the wur in while it was there because I was at work. He said he thinks it runs acceptable now. Going to pick it up tonight. Ill let you all know

what year is the FD? if you use a 78-79 FD on a 80-83 engine, just use the 78-79 WUR. then it's basically the same as the pre-oxygen sensor system, with the exception of the sensor plate size. that can be backdated too. should run fine that way.

Maybe your engine is either a '78 or '79, or maybe it is a Euro. None of those have frequency valves. Post the serial number of the engine, and somebody on this board can tell you what it is.

Does you WUR have two vacuum lines or just one? Does your distributor also have two vacuum lines?

No vacume lines going to the WUR. No "nipples" sticking out of WUR to accept a vacume line. What the F*** is going on?!!! Do I have some kind half breed Porsche/Volkswagen here?
Sorry for the profanity but Im just feeling a little bitter right now.

What is the serial number on the motor? You need to start with that to figure out what you really have.

the serial # is stamped on the right side of the vertical support for the fan housing. the type # is stamped on the horizontal flange to the right of the fan housing, behind the oil pressure sensor (930/XX), some cleaning, and a flashlight usually needed to see it.

80sctarga, where did you take the car in Olympia? I bet it was not Northwest Foreign Auto Parts and Repair.

Denny Akers has had a fine reputation for a long time. As has John Walker.

Let me know if I can help. I'm nearby.

If you wind up needing the proper F.D. for your 930/07, I have a good one. It was put on my Euro '80 at some point, but I replaced it with the correct style. (non-frequency valve)

Cool It could be a lot worse....

I have a 1980 SC with the 930/07 engine and the WUR is BOSCH 0 438 170 009. It has a vacuum nipple but no hose. Make sure to ask for the old WUR back because sometimes they can be cleaned and made to work again. I do have the frequency valve which is behind the airbox. See if you have some frequency-valve-leftovers under the passenger side seat. Is there a small box with a standard type relay? If J.W. says he can make it run without the FV, then it is so!
You are lucky to be close to some fine Porsche mechanics, they should be able to help you thru this.
