2.4L 911T/E MFI system question
I have been looking at a 2.4L('72) 911 T with Webers. It was originally equipped with MFI and I was wondering whether the E system would work without being modifying it. Also, how much would a complete 911T 2.4L MFI system (stacks, pump, fittings, whatever other doodads come w/ it) cost, on average?
Thanks in advance. |

i believe i've read in threads that a complete MFI setup for your car (i have a '73 911E, too) would be approx. $1,200 - $1,500.
hopefully, it would be in good shape. if it needed significant repairs, it could run you another $500 - $1,000 to spruce it up (rebuild the pump, etc.). i would check ebay, rennlist, and PP for used parts. also, search the BB for threads on this topic. |
I understand from your email that you have a MFI from a 911 E. The intake stacks will fit as well as the throttle bdies. You have to check (Gus Pfister, Pacific fuel injection) or somebody else if the throttle bodies bore diameter is the same for an E and T. I know definetly that a S is different from an E! The pump itself will bolt right in BUT the space cam in the T is different. Gus Pfister can advice you how this can be changed. Meaning the amount of fuel delivered will not be correct for the T Motor.
Overall if you are willing to change it back to MFI, Good on you! I know that there are people on the list that just hate it, because it is so hard to set up. My advice: Get the adjustment tools from Performance Products or somewhere else and a mobile CO-Meter. It is really improtant to have everything setup correctly especially the CO. My T is all stock with MFI and I would never spend a single thought to replace the MFI. The throttle response is outstanding and the engine runs beautiful (cold or warm). By the way, the gas mileage is much better than everything that I heard from carbs. At steady 70 mph I get 26 mpg, I think this is really good! Michael 1972 911T Targa 1991 944S2 |
I have a 72T engine with MFI that I need to convert to carbs for SCCA classification. I would consider a swap for your webers.

Before you go making plans to switch back to MFI, you need to find out some stuff.
1. Is this the MFI motor with carbs on it or is it a different motor? 2. If it is the MFI motor then... a. Is the sprocket still on the left cam to drive the pump? b. How did they plug the injector holes and is it reversable? 3. Does it have the fan shroud for an MFI motor with the mounting bracket for the pump? If money isn't an object, go for it, cause MFI is King. If it is, then do a little research. Cheers, Paul |
Money is an object. 1. How much can I get for the Webers? BK911: You mean just a trade for the MFI? I think that sounds reasonable, correct me if I'm wrong...
How much should I expect to pay for the installation? |
The hardware for the T or E is the same except the injection pump has a different space cam. The stacks and throttles are virtually the same. If you already have an E MFI setup why not change the cams in the motor so as to have an 2.4E motor. It's good for another 20 HP.
For what it's worth, I see T MFI setups from time to time for about $400-$500 bucks. Bobby |
Another option: I have a '72 911T that I am rebuilding and converting to E specs and would consider trading my complete T MFI setup for the E setup.
