How bad is my rust?

Hey all. Picked up my first 911 last summer and loved it. As I put her away for winter, I noticed some rust under the battery. So yesterday I brushed away the dust and found a decent hole in the tray. My question is, can I cut out this tray and tack in some thing new or should I just treat it and repaint? The current battery isn't leaking and looks as at some point a previous owner put some silver spray on the spot.

Rust is like cancer cut it out.

Do you weld? Because this is the perfect first repair project to do once you've practiced on some sheet metal.

spray it with osphoric acid and let it dry. brush off any loose material. then coat it with wurths.
do this top and bottom.

that's not bad at all.
based on the pic I would not cut it out. I don't even think I would fill in the holes unless it was a really clean car and then maybe not.

I would even grind away the paint around the rust just to make sure it is not under any paint.

Yep, get in there with a grinder to find ALL of it.

I agree, cut it out and weld in new metal. It never gets better with coatings.

I do, never done sheet metal but I am up for trying. I agree with removing the cancer. Sounds like my upcoming winter project. I'll get it all cleaned up and neutralize any remaining battery juice so I can drive it this summer.
Thanks for all the input.

Fix it right or don't fix it at all.

Is that battery tray available or should I have one made up? What gauge would be a good choice?
