Passenger door lock only works manually
Here it is, my official intro post with question! After a couple of years spent learning and refining my interest, I conducted a serious search over the last few months and ended up with an amazing 1988 coupe. This is my first Porsche, first German car, and first rear-engine/RWD car. I've been a nuts and bolts DIY car guy for 15+ years, so this is just the next phase. I'm looking forward to learning a lot and this forum has been an amazing resource so far.
To my question: the passenger door lock only works manually. The central door lock button and key from the outside won't lock/unlock it. I'm guessing either the push rod from the solenoid has come off, or the solenoid itself is bad. Anyone have any other thoughts on possible causes or things I can do to diagnose? I expect I will need to take the door cards off - info or pictures on that procedure would be appreciated. Not sure why, but photo uploads don't seem to be working. I'll try tomorrow for the obligatory picture of the car ![]() Last edited by autojack; 04-02-2016 at 09:49 PM.. |

The central locking function won´t work correctly if you have a defective microswitch on the back of the lock. Had a similar problem myself

Usually it's the rod popped off the upper latch. You can see it with a flashlight with the glass down.

Sir - your car is beautiful! Congratulations and good luck. I am afraid that folks may miss this because of the topic line - maybe start a new one just for this(?).
What color is that?
